Dec 10 2025

Kwey Kwey, Good morning, everyone.

My name is Greg Sarazin, I am the Chief of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation. It is an honour to join you today for this 2025 Inaugural Meeting of Renfrew County Council. I bring greetings on behalf of our First Nation, and I thank you for inviting me to be part of this important moment in your governance and in the future of the region we all call home.

As Chief, I want to begin by acknowledging that Renfrew County sits on the traditional, and unceded territory of the Algonquin Nation. Our connection to this land stretches back since time immemorial, and that relationship continues today through our culture, our families, and our continuing responsibilities as stewards of these lands and waters.

Today, as a newly elected Warden takes the Oath of Office, we witness not only the beginning of a new term of leadership, but an opportunity to strengthen the relationships between our governments. Strong partnerships—built on respect, transparency, and meaningful dialogue—are essential as we work together for the well-being of all who live within this region. Renfrew County has always been a place shaped by dedication, community spirit, and resilience. As leaders, we share a common responsibility to ensure that the generations who come after us inherit a community that is healthier, safer, and stronger than the one we guide today.

On behalf of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation, I bring congratulations to you, newly elected Warden Jennifer Murphy, on being entrusted with this responsibility. Leadership is not just about title—it is about service. I look forward to continuing our efforts together and building on the progress already underway across Renfrew County.

Meegwetch, thank you again for inviting me to speak today. May we move forward together; in a good way, guided by honesty, partnership, and the shared hope of a brighter future for all our communities.

Thank you, and I wish you all a great day and a safe and fulfilling holiday season.
